About Skye.

For as long as Skye can remember painting and drawing have been a passion–if she's not doing it, she's thinking or dreaming about it.

Since completing her BFA at the National Art School in Sydney 2005, Skye has dedicated her energy to creating, exhibiting, collaborating, and teaching.

Now living and working on the Gold Coast Australia, Skye is a full-time artist alongside raising her young family. Aside from making art her life looks like catching up with friends, loving her two little studio frenchies, eating as much chocolate as possible and enjoying cheeky glasses of wine.

Artist Bio

Through the cathartic and expressive nature of her paintings, Skye seeks to explore the paradox of strength in fragility entangled with her own very personal experiences of love, loss, and grief. Her work recognises that with change and loss comes a darkness, but it also affirms the need to struggle to live in the moments, however fleeting, of beauty and light.

Taking inspiration from nature, particularly florals and idols such as Matisse and Joan Mitchell, Skye’s effervescent style renders confident brush strokes that seem to come alive the longer you look into their depths. Although inspired by florals, her subject matter is energy, drama, and tension. Sparking emotion, meaningful conversation and thoughts and challenging the conventions of beauty, Skye fearlessly pushes the boundaries of what is possible in her art.

Born in Gosford and raised in Sydney (Australia), Skye completed her BFA at the National Art School in 2005, followed by further study at the Sydney Gallery School. Now living and working on the Gold Coast, Skye works as a full-time artist, raising her young family, two studio Frenchies, eating as much chocolate as possible, and enjoying a cheeky glass of wine (or two).

Working predominately with oil paint from floral still life setups in her studio, Skye has featured in over 60 exhibitions and 14 solo shows, resulting in accolades such as; Sydney Contemporary Art Fair 2023, Home Beautiful 20 Best and Brightest 2023, Fenton & Fenton Rising Talent 2021 winner, ALA Abstract Artist 2021 winner, BLA 2018 winner, highly commended in the John Olsen drawing prize, a painting residency in Italy, and various notable private and public commissions.

Artistic Ethos.

Finding beauty through chaos.

Skye strives to challenge the notion of beauty and perfection by connecting with raw intention, pushing boundaries, and holding space to create from the inbetween

Perfectly imperfect.

Celebrating the journey of imperfections, Skye allows these moments room to breathe, letting them shine through; she believes they are often the most beautiful part of the piece.

Inspire to inspire.

Skye's unwavering passion for art fuels her relentless pursuit of self-improvement and growth as an artist. Her dedication inspires those around her as she generously shares her knowledge and past experiences through mentorship and teachings, prioritising the importance of community over competition.
